Wahyu 2:26-27

2:26 And to the one who conquers ¹  and who continues in ²  my deeds until the end, I will give him authority over the nations ³  –

2:27 he ⁴  will rule ⁵  them with an iron rod ⁶ 

and like clay jars he will break them to pieces, ⁷ 

Wahyu 20:4

20:4 Then ⁸  I saw thrones and seated on them were those who had been given authority to judge. ⁹  I also saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of the testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. These ¹⁰  had not worshiped the beast or his image and had refused to receive his mark on their forehead or hand. They ¹¹  came to life ¹²  and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.

[2:26]  ¹ tn Or “who is victorious”; traditionally, “who overcomes.”

[2:26]  ² tn Grk “keeps.” In a context that speaks of “holding on to what you have,” the idea here is one of continued faithful behavior (BDAG 1002 s.v. τηρέω 3 has “ὁ τηρῶν τὰ ἔργα μου the one who takes my deeds to heart Rv 2:26”).

[2:26]  ³ tn Or “over the Gentiles” (the same Greek word may be translated “Gentiles” or “nations”).

[2:27]  ⁴ tn Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.

[2:27]  ⁵ tn Grk “will shepherd.”

[2:27]  ⁶ tn Or “scepter.” The Greek term ῥάβδος (rJabdo") can mean either “rod” or “scepter.”

[2:27]  ⁷ sn A quotation from Ps 2:9 (with the line introducing the quotation containing a partial allusion to Ps 2:8). See also Rev 12:5, 19:15.

[20:4]  ⁸ tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence within the narrative.

[20:4]  ⁹ tn Grk “I saw thrones, and those seated on them, and judgment was given to them.” BDAG 567 s.v. κρίμα 3 says, “judging, judgment, the κρίμα ἐδόθη αὐτοῖς authority to judge was given to them Rv 20:4.”

[20:4]  ¹⁰ tn Grk “God, and who.” Because of the length and complexity of the Greek sentence, a new sentence was started here in the translation by supplying the pronoun “these” as subject.

[20:4]  ¹¹ tn Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.

[20:4]  ¹² tn On the use of the aorist ἔζησαν (ezhsan) BDAG 425 s.v. ζάω 1.a.β says, “of dead persons who return to life become alive again: of humans in general (3 Km 17:23) Mt 9:18; Ac 9:41; 20:12; Rv 20:4, 5.”
